See ’Em at the Museum!

May 18, 2011

Hey, what’s up? It’s me, Max, and I wanted to tell you about another reason why I really like the month of May. Besides having the NBA Playoffs (which have been awesome!), today is International Museum Day. Have you heard of it? Cherry-Ot told me more about it. International Museum Day was started in 1977 by the International Council of Museums to remind all of us about the importance of having museums. Do you have a favorite museum?

Cherry-Ot said that over 30,000 museums from around the world celebrate International Museum Day by having special exhibitions and things to do and to see. This year, the theme of International Museum Day is “Museum and Memory.” Day Z Girl asked what that theme meant, and Lily and I think it means that museums have a lot to do with memory because they show paintings, photos, objects, and artifacts that help remind us about different time periods, places, people, and events.

So, whether you’re near the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Pennsylvania, or the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, be sure to check out what the museums around you have to offer. I promise you’ll learn something new and see cool things, and guess what…a lot of museums have free tickets today! If only that were true for the NBA Playoffs.

Bye for now!
