Memorial Day

Hi from McPopper Children’s Hospital! It’s Lily, and I hope you’re all having a great week. Here in Kite Tree, we’re getting ready for Memorial Day, which is next Monday, May 30th.

Are you doing anything for Memorial Day? Most people don’t have to work on that day because it’s a federal holiday, and they plan trips, family gatherings, and menus for their barbeque parties over the long weekend. But we all know that Memorial Day is more than that. It’s a time for us to honor and remember the men and women who fought for our country. It’s because of their bravery that we are able to enjoy the freedom that we have, and we are so thankful to all of them.

Many people visit war monuments over this weekend like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., or the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. Max and I drew some American flags that Samantha helped us hang in the playroom, and Dr. Duck Ling helped us, too. (He can fly up and tape the flags really high on the wall.) Also, Jella keeps singing patriotic songs like “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “My Country ’Tis of Thee.” (Mr. Pan-D hasn’t slept at all.)

And in the words of Beary Bruised:
“Our thanks to the soldiers never ends, as we remember their courage with family and friends. So wave your flags high and celebrate away, and don’t forget…have a critterrific Memorial Day!”
