To the Moon!

July 20, 2011

Hi from McPopper Children’s Hospital! It’s Lily at the computer, and we’re all still smiling over here from last week’s episode of The Doctors where they talked about Hospital Critterz: The Prairie Pet. It was so exciting! In case you missed it, you can click here to watch it. Have you read the book yet? You should!

Cherry-Ot told me that today is the anniversary of the day when man walked on the moon for the very first time. What an amazing thing! Apollo 11 was the name of the mission, and there was a crew of three astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. And on July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the moon.

Neil Armstrong walked on the moon first, and he said a very famous quote. Have you heard it? He said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” I really like that quote because it means that his little step on the moon represented a big step in mankind’s knowledge and understanding about space and space exploration. But I think it also means that anything is possible. And I really like that.

So be sure to look at the moon tonight before you go to bed. You can think about Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, and what it must have been like to go to the moon. Next…we have to get a Hospital Critter on the moon!

Have a critterrific day!
