Presidential Surprise

Hey, what’s up? It’s me, Max, and last Thursday, August 4th, was President Barack Obama’s 50th birthday. So, President Obama, if you’re reading this (and we hope you are!), everyone here at McPopper Children’s Hospital wishes you a happy birthday!

My parents told me that Jennifer Hudson sang “Happy Birthday” to President Obama, and I think that next year Jella should perform. Maybe they can do a duet!

Would you want to be president? Tell us why! It’s a cool job, that’s for sure. Cherry-Ot taught me some things about the presidents that I didn’t know. She looked up stuff in her book and showed me pictures. Here are five fun facts I learned about the presidents:

1. Abraham Lincoln was the tallest president (at 6’4”!), and James Madison was the shortest president (at 5’4”).
2. There have been six presidents with the first name of James. There’s James Madison, James Monroe, James Polk, James Buchanan, James Garfield, and James Carter.
3. The “S” in Harry S. Truman’s name isn’t short for a middle name. It’s a middle initial that’s named after his grandfathers, Anderson Shipp Truman and Solomon Young. And there’s a debate about whether you should even write the period after the “S” or not!
4. Gerald Ford’s daughter had her high school prom in the White House. (I bet that was an awesome party.)
5. Barack Obama is the 44th president, but there have really only been 43 presidents. Grover Cleveland is counted twice as the 22nd and 24th president because he was elected for two terms that didn’t follow right after each other.

Do you have more fun facts about the presidents? Be sure to post them on our blog!

Bye for now!
