Peace of Mind

Hi from McPopper Children’s Hospital! You guessed it…it’s me, Lily! And I want to say hi to all of our readers. We’re doing a fun project here at the hospital called Pinwheels for Peace, and you can learn more about it here. Have you heard of it? We’re making pinwheels out of pieces of paper (click here for instructions) and decorating them with drawings and colors, and we’re writing different words, poems, and thoughts on them that have to do with peace. Then Samantha is helping us put the pinwheels all around the hospital, both indoors and out, to celebrate the International Day of Peace on September 21st. Max, the Critterz, and I are using Mr. McPopper’s markers to color our pinwheels, so the pinwheels are really shining. And what’s cool about making a pinwheel is that it’s seen from all angles. And that means I get to color the front and back of it. Plus, when I blow on the pinwheel, it actually spins. And then the colors are even brighter!

A lot of people around the world are making and decorating pinwheels for Pinwheels for Peace. The project helps us think about what peace means to us in our lives. It reminds us to respect each other and treat others the way we would like to be treated. The project is also about finding our own inner-peace and happiness every day. I wrote the words hope, peace, love, and friendship on the pinwheels I’ve made so far. What will you write on your pinwheels? And how will you decorate them? With paint? Markers? Crayons? Let us know!

And don’t forget…have a critterrific and peaceful day!
