Carefree and “Car-Free”

September 21, 2011

Hey, what’s up? It’s me, Max, and I hope all of you are having a good day! Are your pinwheels on display? Today is the International Day of Peace, and as Lily blogged about last week, we made and decorated pinwheels and put them around the hospital for Pinwheels for Peace. And it looks pretty awesome around here. The pinwheels are spinning, and we had a lot of fun making them. (You can learn more about Pinwheels for Peace here.)

Ping & Pong wanted me to tell you that tomorrow is also a special day that is very important to them, and to all of us, really. September 22nd is World Carfree Day, and it’s a day when people try to leave their cars at home and see what their city would be like if they walked, rode a bike, or used public transportation to get around. (Check it out here.) That way there’d be fewer cars on the road, which means less congestion, less pollution, and less noise…all really good things! The less we use cars, the cleaner our air will be. And tomorrow is a great day to experiment and explore what changes we can make in our daily lives that can help the environment. And what’s cool is that whatever changes we make, big or small, they’re all really helpful in so many ways! You see, if you walk to the post office the next time you have to mail a letter, you’re keeping pollution down and helping your body by exercising. (Miss Soy likes that!) Or, even if your only option is to use a car, you could join a carpool, and that way you’re having fewer cars on the road, saving the environment from extra pollution, and saving money on gas. Plus, you won’t be alone in your car when you have to drive places. It’s way more fun to have passengers! So World Carfree Day can actually help you make new friends!

What changes will you make tomorrow? Let us know!

Bye for now!
