Seriously Cereal

Hey, what’s up? It’s me, Max, and I hope you’re all having a good morning. What did you have for breakfast? Do you like to eat cereal? Today is National Cereal Day! How cool is that? I really like cereal, especially the kinds that have flakes, dried fruit, and nut clusters in them. Lily really likes the cereal that has little pieces of shredded wheat in it. And with Miss Soy’s recommendation, Lily and I put soy milk in our cereal. But milk is good, too! You really can’t go wrong with cereal. Dr. Ling told us that sometimes he combines different cereals together and makes his own kind! I’ll have to try that…maybe tomorrow morning. Samantha said that she doesn’t just eat cereal for breakfast. Sometimes she has raisin bran dry without soy milk or milk as a mid-morning snack, or she mixes the raisin bran with yogurt and fruit like strawberries and blueberries. That sounds tasty. I’ll have to try that, too!

Cherry-Ot said that National Cereal Day is meant to honor Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his brother Will Keith Kellogg who invented Corn Flakes cereal in 1894. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg ran a hospital in Michigan where he and his brother experimented a lot with different foods. One day, when they were cooking wheat, they discovered that they could flatten older wheat in a roller and it would turn into a thin flake. Then they baked the flakes and came up with a cereal! Corn Flakes were here to stay. That’s one yummy creation.
