Lots of Luck

May 22, 2013

Hi from McPopper Children’s Hospital! It’s Lily at the computer, and I hope you’re all having a great day. And speaking of great days, I just learned that tomorrow, May 23rd, is Lucky Penny Day! Beary Bruised told me that there’s a saying that goes, “Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you’ll have good luck!” I think it’s cool that there’s a whole day celebrating this magical idea.

Cherry-Ot told me that the penny has gone through a lot of changes over the years not only in how it looks, but also what it could buy you. Today, the penny we’re used to seeing has President Lincoln’s profile on it. But over the years, the penny has been decorated with a flying eagle, a Native American wearing a headdress, and a shield (just to name a few). Plus, it’s hard to find things that cost just pennies today, but only around 50 years ago you could buy bubblegum, candy, and peppermints for just pennies. Yum!

So be on the lookout tomorrow for any pennies you may find while you’re walking around or even searching in a drawer in your room. You never know where a penny will turn up…but I do know that it’ll bring you luck! And don’t forget…have a critterrific luck-filled day!
