Taking a Stroll

June 19, 2013

Hi from McPopper Children’s Hospital! It’s Lily at the computer, and I hope you’re all having a great day. Cherry-Ot told me that today is World Sauntering Day! Do you know what sauntering means? I learned that sauntering is to stroll along and walk at a calm and relaxed pace. The real message behind World Sauntering Day is to take time to slow down and enjoy what’s going on around you. There’s an expression that goes “you should take time to smell the roses,” and that’s what today is all about. We should all take time to appreciate the beauty of life around us. Here at the hospital, we really take time to stop and smell the roses when we’re talking with our favorite flowers: Ping & Pong and Day Z Girl!

World Sauntering Day was said to have been started in the 1970s by W. T. Rabe at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. This hotel has the world’s longest porch that’s perfect for people to saunter on. It’s 660 feet long!

So be sure to take some time to slow down today and appreciate what’s going on around you. And don’t forget…have a critterrific sauntering-filled day!
